The Mission of AND
December 2, 2012
Here AND There
First of all that looked like a wonderful trip, but (and I do not want to cause any grief) what about the United States? We have people that are in desperate situations here. Instead of all these churches going halfway around the world, why don’t we do mission work here first? (posted on Facebook)
Gathered AND Scattered (Attractional and Missional churches)
Strong AND Stretched
“Whenever we try to encourage churches to send people out to plant new works or suggest that a pastor start small pilots of incarnational communities, we see the angst on his face. ‘How can I give away money and these people? How will I replace what is lost?’ If you’ve been understanding that the goal is to pull people toward the center, these questions are natural. But the bigger reality is that God is the head of the church AND the Lord of the harvest. It’s a known statistic that the churches that give away, that take risks, that send out, and that sacrificially push their people out, create vacuums that God fills with even more.” (Hugh Halter and Matt Smay, The Gathered and Scattered Church).
Jesus said “For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whoever desires to lose his life for My sake shall find it.” (Matthew 16:25)
“Bon Air Baptist was born facing the world,” (Bob Dale, in Cultivating Perennial Churches: Your Guide to Long-Term Growth).
