School of the Arts - Policies

Tuition Payments

Tuition payments are due the first day of lessons of each month. Students who fail to pay on the designated date will incur a late fee of $10 (Ex. $100 tuition payment increases to $110 tuition payment).


The student is responsible for contacting the teacher if a lesson is to be missed. If the teacher is unavailable, the student should call the SOTA office. Students who fail to cancel their lesson will be recorded as a “no show” and will NOT be given a make-up lesson. Make up lessons will be granted for excused absences ONLY. Students will be allowed no more than two make-up lessons per semester. If the instructor cancels the lesson, the student will be notified as far in advance as possible. Lessons will be rescheduled at a mutually agreed upon time. If the School of Arts closes due to inclement weather, lessons will be rescheduled.


Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late, forfeit their lesson. A make-up lesson may be scheduled at the instructor’s discretion.

When the instructor is more than10-minutes late, the student may request a make-up lesson.

Students who arrive tardy, but are less than 10 minutes late will be granted

Inclement Weather

When Chesterfield County Public Schools are closed for the day due to inclement weather, SOTA classes are canceled and will be rescheduled.

Holiday Closings

The School of the Arts has a published list of holiday closings. (See calendar for dates.)


Recital opportunities are offered, and students are encouraged to participate.


Students are responsible for providing their own instruments.
