Tom is married to Paula, a school teacher by passion, and they have two daughters, Lindsey and Ashley. Tom is the son of missionaries and spent his formative years in Zambia, central Africa. Returning from overseas, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Mars Hill College, Masters in Sociology from Appalachian State University, Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.
Vocationally, Tom served as a journeyman missionary to the West Indies, Consultant for the Baptist State Convention of NC, pastored in Roanoke, VA, and just prior to BABC served as a Field Strategist for the Baptist General Association of VA.
Tom enjoys playing handball and golf and serving as a police chaplain for over 20 years.
Jim has a Bachelor of Music from Samford University, a Master of Church Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Musical Arts from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His master's thesis was titled, "Hunger and Hope: The Body of Christ in a Starving World" and was performed for the first SBC convocation on world hunger. His dissertation, "A Korean Requiem" (in honor of those who have died while in separation from family during the division of the Korean peninsula), was performed in Seoul, Korea on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War.
Jim and his wife, Diane, served in South Korea for 21 years representing Southern Baptists at the Korea Baptist Church Development Board in Seoul. He presently serves as a music consultant for Global Resource Services (GRS), an NGO that works largely in North Korea. Jim has visited North Korea several times and has assisted groups, including Casting Crowns and the Annie Moses Band, in performing in North Korea.
Don joined the staff of Bon Air Baptist in July of 2013. As Church Administrator, he handles finance, facilities and food service. Don is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in accounting. He has been a member of Bon Air Baptist for 35+ years and enjoys skiing, running and anything Virginia Tech.
Born and raised in Mechanicsville, VA, Jessica Fox is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she studied Classical Voice. She currently enjoys serving as vocal director at Bon Air Baptist Church, and she works as a private vocal coach. Jessica is one-third of the A Capella trio Resound. She's passionate about songwriting, music theory, and racquetball.
Sean is currently a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University and plans to attend the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond beginning in Fall 2017 to pursue a Masters of Divinity. He moved to Richmond in 2011 and has served at First Baptist Church Richmond as an intern for their youth ministry. Sean enjoys hiking, sitting by the river, listening to music and playing the guitar and banjo.
A native of Helsingborg, Sweden, Daniel has lived in the U.S. for 13 years where he has performed in various musicals on and off Broadway and toured with bands throughout the country. After meeting Katie, now his wife, the two began seeking God's plans and purpose for their lives. Daniel founded Passion Academy, a local School for the Arts that trains, equips and mobilizes people of all ages who want to pursue music and dance disciplines. While serving as interim worship leaders with the JRC, they fell in love with the community and sensed a strong calling to be part of our church family. Together with their son, Lukas, Daniel and Kaite call Bon Air home.
Mac and his wife, Amy, came to Bon Air Baptist in September 2011. Mac is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina and The Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, Virginia. Mac has a heart for relationships as he loves to connect people to God and to one another. When not at church one can find Mac spending time with him family, at a Dojo learning martial arts, or working on his Doctorate at the Samuel Proctor Dewitt School of Theology.
Greg is a former pastry chef. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. During his career he has worked in numerous venues which include: the Richmond Coliseum and most recently at Richmond International Raceway. Greg and his wife, Jamie, have one son, Aaden.
Rusty is passionate about serving students and helping students grow in Christ. In his personal time, he roots for the Clemson Tigers. He and his wife have 3 children.
In 2015, Amy first came to the James River Campus as a visitor with her husband, Joe, and their daughter, Cora. They fell in love with the JRC and felt called to make Bon Air Baptist their church home. Later that year, they were blessed with a baby boy, Tyler. Over the last two years, Amy and Joe have been involved in many areas of ministry. Their passion for the Lord has been instrumental in fostering the strong sense of community we share at the JRC. As the JRC Children's Ministry Coordinator, Amy's passion is helping children feel connected to the Gospel and learning about the unfailing love of Jesus.
Randy came to Bon Air Baptist Church in 2001 to serve as an audio technician for The Gathering worship service. The service grew and Randy is now the Director of Media at Bon Air Baptist. Randy worked for WDBJ-TV 18 years and has 25 years of experience in broadcasting. He owns a company specializing in designing and installing audio, video and lighting systems. Randy produces multi-media elements for our contemporary worship services and oversees the audio and video systems at Bon Air Baptist Church. Randy and his wife Maria, have 3 wonderful children.
Rebecca is a Richmond native. She has a Master's Degree in Teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University, and taught history for four years in Chesterfield County Public Schools. She played Division I soccer in college and has a heart for recreation. She lives in Bon Air with her husband and five boys.
Peggy joined the Bon Air Baptist staff in 1994 as the Director of Weekday Ministries. She now serves in that role and that of Preschool Coordinator. These preschool activities at Bon Air Baptist include Sunday school, iKIDS, parent-child dedications, and special events for our preschool families. Peggy is a graduate of George Mason University. She and her family have been members of Bon Air Baptist for over 20 years.
Katherine is a Bon Air native, and 3rd generation member of BABC. Growing up here in the church, she appreciated the Bible studies, mission work, and youth choir experiences that led up to the plans God had for her life. Katherine directed the Children's Ministry program and musicals at another local congregation for 12 years, along with leading on a Worship Team for 15 years. The Lord led her back to BABC in 2012, where she has served as a vocalist on the Gathering Praise Team, and in special events with the Sanctuary Choir. Leading others to an intimate relationship with Christ through music and worship is her heartfelt passion! Katherine is grateful to God for her husband Todd, an Henrico Firefighter, and 3 children, Justus, Jaden, and Sirene.
In 2006, after a successful a career in the business world, John came on staff as our first campus pastor and launched the James River Campus. Since this time, John has played an integral leadership role in our Multi-Site ministry at all Bon Air campuses. John has a Master's degree from George Fox Evangelical Seminary. In 2014, John was named the Person of the Year for the Robious Corridor. He and his wife, Lee Ann, are the proud parents of two and grandparents of three.
Gene is married to his lovely wife, Barbara, and has two beautiful little girls. They have lived in the Richmond area since 2015. He is originally from Connecticut where he served as a youth pastor for twelve years. Apart from youth ministry, Gene has a heart for justice and serves with an anti-human trafficking non-profit called Gray Haven. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Alliance Theological Seminary. Gene enjoys all things sports, real and fantasy, and in his spare time you'll probably find him at a local park with his family.
Deb joined the staff of Bon Air Baptist Church in August 2007. A native of Virginia, she earned a B.A. from Averett University, a M.Ed. from the University of Louisville, and a M.M.L. from Rockbridge Seminary. Through the years she has served in churches and denominational life as a pastor’s wife, an educator, a missionary, and a minister to children. Deborah is married to Dr. John Upton, Jr., Executive Director of the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Deb enjoys being with her children and especially her grandchildren.
